Angie Burkhimer Swygert

Chesapeake School Board Chair

It has been my humble honor to serve on the School Board since 2020 (Chair since 2023), and I truly thank you for your trust in me to continue the critical work of ensuring our school system remains among the best in the state. We have navigated some of the most challenging times any school board has ever seen in the last four years, and our work is far from over. It is my ongoing commitment to tackle every challenge and opportunity thoughtfully, strategically, prayerfully, and with an eye keenly focused on what is in the best interest of our students and staff, both in the short term and long term.

As a mom, businessperson, and community leader, I have the proven skills and educational background to be a key asset in advancing excellence in our school system.

As a product of Chesapeake Public Schools, I am grateful for my educational experience in one of the finest public school systems in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  In fact, I continue to be actively involved with our schools since my son attends CPS and my daughter is a proud 2024 graduate. I am deeply invested in ensuring a top-quality education and safe learning environment for ALL Chesapeake students. One of my highest priorities as a parent and school board member is to provide the best level of support possible for teachers and staff. It is critical that we continue to equip our educators with the necessary resources to thrive in their increasingly demanding role.

I was born and raised in Deep Creek and now reside with my family in Great Bridge. I am the Vice President of Operations for the Congressional Prayer Caucus Foundation and earned my BSBA in Marketing from Old Dominion University in 1998. I have served numerous times as Room Mom in my kids’ classrooms and Team Mom and Coach for my son’s rec league football team.

Chesapeake is a special place, and I am committed to keeping it that way.

I humbly ask for your vote on November 5th. Thank you!
